Sometimes it is necessary to try to lookup an EIN (Employer Identification Number, also known as a Federal Employer Identification number or FEIN). An EIN is a special, unique identifier which is assigned by the IRS to a given business entity for tax purposes. The IRS, unfortunately, does not provide a simply way to find out an EIN, whether it is your own or someone else’s. The IRS website can tell you whether or not you need to have an EIN.

Employees wanting to lookup their OWN EIN:

1. This number should appear on your pay stub.

2. It must appear on your 2010 IRS W-2 form. Look in box “b”.



3. You can always just ask your employer for the number, as they will have it on file


Employers wanting to lookup their OWN EIN:

1. When you first received your EIN from the IRS the number would have been mailed to you.

2. If you have a business bank account, your bank would have the EIN number in their files.

3. You can always contact the IRS directly.
